Working River
Imagine a future for Northeast Ohio in which the Cuyahoga is a healthy, Working River. The Navigation Channel, the lower 6 miles of the Cuyahoga River, would maintain a flourishing ecology. The river would be a key factor in the vitality and growth of sustainable industry, as well as the centerpiece for a nationally and internationally renowned quality-of-life in this region. Each element of this Working River would reinforce the others, and the Cuyahoga River would be widely recognized as the treasure that it truly is.
The Cuyahoga Valley Initiative believes that this reality is attainable. The Cuyahoga River can become a state of the art Working River that fulfills industrial needs while supporting healthy natural systems. To move forward, we must understand the river’s past, acknowledge the assets that we have at present, and nurture the opportunities for growth that abound in and along the River.
