+ Cuyahoga River Tributaries
A number of major tributaries and many smaller streams originate from these
higher elevations and flow into the Cuyahoga River.
Big, West and
Chippewa Creeks begin in the southern highlands of the County and
flow into the Cuyahoga River from the west. Mill and
Tinkers Creeks are major tributaries that flow in from the east.
Except for Tinkers Creek, which begins in Portage County and flows through Summit County, each of
these major tributaries is located entirely within Cuyahoga County. The routes of these creeks are
diverted away from Lake Erie and toward the Cuyahoga River by glacial
moraines and beach ridges which have created moundings of earth across the local landscape.
